Ida, this show was one of the festival's must-see events. This was my first time seeing John Butler live and despite what I had already heard and of him, I was NOT prepared to get my mind blown like I did. John came on stage and immediately had the audience wrapped around his finger. The crowd was swollen to it's absolute max (turns out it was the highest attended show of the entire festival) and everyone was excited for what was to be an incredible performance. I could not believe the sounds he could coax from his instruments. If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I'd have thought there were a lot more people on stage than there actually were. John made a special effort to acknowledge and pay thanks & respect to the Native Canadians for use of the land. John talks about a cultural exchange he went on earlier that day and to the delight of the audience, he demonstrated the Salmon Arm Handshake with Byron. Also, during Funky Tonight, John had the entire audience turn around and face the back. I was directly in front of the soundboard and due to my microphones, could not turn around. I definitely felt very weird as the entire audience faced me and I was the only one of the thousands not to turn around. A few audience members, not knowing that I was taping, gave me the evil eye. ********************************************** Fight the Loudness War! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war No compression was used in the post-processing of this recording to preserve it's dynamic range, listenability and authenticity. This recording will naturally sound much better cranked up loud with quality headphones!
