In 2018 I dug into a small slice of Deep Banana Blackout history when I was inspired to dig out my recordings of the Boot Camp all-star guest-filled weekly Wetlands from from 1999.  At the same time, I was also inspired to help fill in much more of the missing historical DBB records by transferring a bunch of other uncirculated DBB shows....and BARN181 is one of them.  This recording represents the second time I ever saw DBB -- and the first headlining show I ever saw them play.  The first time I saw them was by the STRONG recommendation of old friend Steve Tighe whose recommendations I learned to trust -- that was on 10/25/1997 at Wetlands as an opening band for the first (and only?) time String Cheese Incident played at Wetlands -- that recording of mine was uploaded to archive.org by Steve Tighe himself in 2006 and is available here <a href="https://archive.org/details/DBB1997-10-25.TLM170.flac16" rel="ugc nofollow">https://archive.org/details/DBB1997-10-25.TLM170.flac16</a>   This show occurred soon after (less than 2 months later) and was -- I believe, their first headlining show in NYC.  Also, if I recall correctly it was billed as an "open bar party" where you paid an unusually high price to get in the door of this tiny club but could drink all you wanted -- and it led to some REALLY REALLY drunk people by the end of the show.  Luckily for us it didn't seem to have much of an effect on this recording. Give a listen and you will hear a band that is deeply schooled in the funk, covering all of its funky bases -- P-Funk, James Brown, The Meters, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters, Lenny Kravitz, The Temptations (performing a song that was co-written by Eddie Hazel, guitarist from P-Funk)...but even more importantly they had a solid stash of excellent originals that held their own amongst the funk classics (with some varied styles as well, including Latin Groove).  This was a band that was ready to conquer the world, and you can hear it here.  This will be the 3rd oldest DBB show on archive.org at this time.  Look for some more sweet Banana Blackout treats to come in the BARN series as I attempt to fill in some holes in its collective auditory story here on archive.org.

In 2018 I dug into a small slice of Deep Banana Blackout history when I was inspired to dig out my recordings of the Boot Camp all-star guest-filled weekly Wetlands from from 1999.  At the same time, I was also inspired to help fill in much more of the missing historical DBB records by transferring a bunch of other uncirculated DBB shows....and BARN181 is one of them.  This recording represents the second time I ever saw DBB -- and the first headlining show I ever saw them play.  The first time I saw them was by the STRONG recommendation of old friend Steve Tighe whose recommendations I learned to trust -- that was on 10/25/1997 at Wetlands as an opening band for the first (and only?) time String Cheese Incident played at Wetlands -- that recording of mine was uploaded to archive.org by Steve Tighe himself in 2006 and is available here <a href="https://archive.org/details/DBB1997-10-25.TLM170.flac16" rel="ugc nofollow">https://archive.org/details/DBB1997-10-25.TLM170.flac16</a>.   This show occurred soon after (less than 2 months later) and was -- I believe, their first headlining show in NYC.  Also, if I recall correctly it was billed as an "open bar party" where you paid an unusually high price to get in the door of this tiny club but could drink all you wanted -- and it led to some REALLY REALLY drunk people by the end of the show.  Luckily for us it didn't seem to have much of an effect on this recording. Give a listen and you will hear a band that is deeply schooled in the funk, covering all of its funky bases -- P-Funk, James Brown, The Meters, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters, Lenny Kravitz, The Temptations (performing a song that was co-written by Eddie Hazel, guitarist from P-Funk)...but even more importantly they had a solid stash of excellent originals that held their own amongst the funk classics (with some varied styles as well, including Latin Groove).  This was a band that was ready to conquer the world, and you can hear it here.  This will be the 3rd oldest DBB show on archive.org at this time.  Look for some more sweet Banana Blackout treats to come in the BARN series as I attempt to fill in some holes in its collective auditory story here on archive.org.
